The
Museo de Arte, Sacramento, is an attempt to conceive
the museum as a discussion forum where art projects are kept and
developed. Different from other art institutions, this open space
museum located in a remote place in northern Mexico, visualizes
itself not as a custodian of static objects but as a living archive
for art practices. The Museo’s primary goal is to host site-specific
works of art in a real but almost inaccessible space in order to
challenge the generally accepted notion of the museum as a neutral
entity and to expand it into a more open and abstract conception.
The Museo de Arte, Sacramento is exclusively dedicated to the exhibition
of works from its collection, one that is formed by artist’s
proposals. This means that all the works in it are lent by the artists
and are kept in their sketch or instructions form in the Museo’s
archive, so that the institution’s staff, public and/or other
artist are able to make them happen.
